Prospects of Accretion of Budget to the Indian Navy

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Karambir Singh made out a case for greater allocations of funds for the Indian Navy capital acquisition programme. Making the pitch at a FICCI seminar Admiral Karambir Singh argued that allocation to the Navy has reduced from 18 per cent of the defence budget in 2012-13 to 13 per cent now, impacting future force planning and capability development.  Due to this shortfall the Indian Navy had to revamp procurement plans.

Admiral Karabir Singh outlined how naval ship building plan if funded adequately would not only result in maintaining a high level of combat capability but also benefit the ship building sector in the country as the Navy’s acquisitions were mainly from indigenous source.
