OSINT REPORT: Malabar 2018 Establishing India’s Widening Area of Strategic Influence

India’s strategic area of influence was defined as extending from the Persian Gulf to the Malacca Straits; however, the expanse of Exercise Malabar 2018 conducted by the Indian Navy along with the Japanese and the US Navy seems to indicate that this is now expanded to include the Western Pacific. This geographic designation of India’s strategic influence was accepted over the years by successive governments to exercise soft and hard power. The expanse saw India as the Centre of Gravity spanning two of the most critical regions of primary interest to the West and East-West Asia (Middle East) and South East Asia respectively. India has deep civilisational, economic and energy and trade relations in this region over the years. Many bilateral and multilateral partnerships signify the importance over the years.............................
