Nepal Army Goes for Indonesian C 235 Even as Airbus Tata Joint Project Delayed

Nepal Army has taken delivery of first CN235-220 military transport aircraft made by Indonesian aircraft manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) which has a joint project with CASA to manufacture the modified C 235 on licence.

While India hopes to be a key defence exporter the delay in getting joint projects off the ground is evident as the Air Bus Tata joint project for manufacturing 56 C 295 approved by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) in 2015 is yet to see the light of the day.

In addition, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) will acquire six aircraft.

With the price negotiations having concluded in March this year, the green light by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) may be expected early 2020 while five more years will be required to have the first indigenously manufactured aircraft flying for the Indian Air Force as per Janes Defence Correspondent in India Mr Rahul Bedi...................
