Modi 2.0 – Moving to Cultivated Ambiguity on NFU?

Is the policy of the Indian government on nuclear No First Use (NFU) moving towards cultivated ambiguity or is this a case of adopting a launch-on-warning option as a modified NFU against Pakistan’s possible first strike nuclear attack as is the professed yet unstated doctrine of the country. The debate has been opened after a tweet by Mr Rajnath Singh, India’s Defence Minister from his personal Twitter Account @Rajnath Singh on India’s no first use nuclear commitment who was on a visit to Pokhran to attend the closing ceremony of the Army Scout Masters Competition has taken the social media by storm. The tweet referring to India’s No First Use (NFU) Doctrine in the context of Pokhran the venue of the Scouts Master Competition which is also the site of India’s Shakti nuclear tests in 1998 states that the country remains committed to the No First Use doctrine but future course will be determined by circumstances.........................
