Make In India in Defence Remains on Paper In a major blow to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “ make in India “ drive to wean the country off imported arms, Indian firms have spurned some $15 billion worth of government tenders to make a range of weapons since 2013, said a report by Reuters on April 8. The key reason for the Indian firms’ reluctance to bid for projects was that the demand from the military planes , tanks and guns were of unrealistic quality and that the military doesn't want weapons from Indian firms with no track record in defence manufacturing.
