Long OFB Strike Could Impact Munition Supplies

Approximately 80,000 employees of the Indian Ordnance Factories deployed in 41 establishments are on a strike since 20 August against a proposal for corporatisation of the government run organisation that manufactures critical arms and munitions for the country’s armed forces. The Employees are affiliated to three unions - All India Defence Employees Federation (AIDEF), the Indian National Defence Workers Federation (INDWF) and the Bharatiya Pratiraksha Mazdoor Sangh (BPMS). Ordnance Factories mainly cater for the Indian Army with tanks, guns, rifles and munitions being the key items which are the exclusive preserve of this establishment going back to the World Wars. The Ordnance Factories were originally created for providing munitions and stores for the British Indian Army particularly when deployed in the Burm Theatre in the Second World War.............
