Indian Army Anti Tank Potential - Second Generation Capabilities

Indian Army is currently fielding the Milan 2 T and the Konkurs Anti Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) which are second generation production lacking the fire and forget capabilities that mark the third and higher generation versions. While the Army was hoping to induct the Nag being developed by the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) proverbial delays by the government research organization has meant that the product continues in the technical trial stage.  The latest trial of the Nag Missile was carried out on 08 July. Another variety of ATGM developed by the DRDO is the Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) which is also undergoing trials the latest being carried out in the months of May this year. The Indian Army was keen to induct the Israel manufactured Spike ATGM, however assurance by the DRDO of timely development of the MPATGM and the Nag has led to the government placing plans for the same on the backburner.............................
