Indian Armed Forces Multiple Proposals for Air Defense Guns

The Indian Armed Forces have made multiple proposals for procurement of air defense guns – to replace the L 70 and Schilka since 2014 Two Request for Information (RFI) have been issued by the Indian Army – one in 2014 and now a fresh one in November 2018 due to apparent lack of progress for the past three and a half years. The Indian Air Force has also issued a tender for procurement of what it calls a Close in Weapons Systems to include the same guns in December 2017. It is not clear if there has been any coordination between the two services the Army and the Air Force in issue of the proposals. HQ Integrated Defense Staff Ministry of Defense is also required to vet such proposals by different services. The delays in progressing of RFI and pursuit of parallel programmes by the Army and the Air Force are not surprising given past precedence.
