India China Sustaining the Wuhan Spirit

India’s Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping met on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa on 26 July. This was the second one on one meeting post the Wuhan informal Summit in April which was followed by the Qingdao aside and now the meeting in Johannesburg. The two leaders have now met thrice in the past quarter which is exceptional for large emerging powers as India and China. However expanding multilateralism in recent years despite the protectionist approach of the United States in the Trump era such interactions have become common place. .................... In line with these directions a number of developments have taken place which denote a positive trend in India China relations apart from the three one on one engagement between Mr Modi and Mr Xi Jinping.  Ironically these efforts and so was the Wuhan summit aided by uncertainty triggered by the US Administration under President Donald Trump’s protectionist agenda which has threatened multilateralism in which rising powers India and China have staked their future.
