India’s Final Defence Budget 2014-15: Continuing Challenges to Modernisation   With the Bhartiya Janata Party led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government taking office in Delhi on 26 May 2014, there was excitement in defence and security sector given robust policies that was expected from the Party. Initial statements from Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Mr Arun Jaitley on defence and security outlined an impetus to maintain high level of operational readiness, review procurement policies to impart momentum to modernization, privatization of industry and indigenization.
