IAF: Mix and Match Approach Continues

In the near term MiG-29, Mirage-2000, Jaguar, Rafale, Su-30 MKI and LCA will be the IAF mix of front line fighters  as MiG 21 fades away. As per information provided to the Parliamentary Committee on Defence in 2018, the Indian Air Force [IAF] has 31 active fighter squadrons. The Ministry of Defence Annual Report 2017-18 commenting on the IAF’s plans for making up the deficit which may only grow as more MiG 21 squadrons become obsolescent, “is pursuing a dedicated and focused modernisation plan to transform itself into a strategic aerospace power with full spectrum capability. Continuous upgradation of existing equipment and induction of new weapon platforms have ensured that IAF continues on the desired trajectory of modernisation”......................
