Ex Gagan Shakti Combat Fire Support Operations

Over the years, the Indian Air Force has made significant efforts to acquire weapons that are more lethal than before and can be delivered from greater ranges with precision. More lethal power delivered with precision signifies that lesser number of weapons, hence aircraft, have to be employed to neutralize the intended target system, in addition to limiting the collateral damage. Standoff firing ranges enhance aircraft safety from the enemy air defence. This is being validated in the ongoing Exercise Gaganshakti. Since the commencement of the exercise on 11 Apr, the IAF has put its plan into action. A large number of precision weapons of different categories have been dropped from various capable platforms, both in day and night. All the weapons achieved their designated points of impact creating the desired damage. This speaks for the very high training standards of the pilots and maintenance practices of the IAF. While the detailed professional analysis of overall effect on war is a continuous process, the initial indications are encouraging. This underscores the confidence the IAF places in its combat power.
