Doklam: End of Peaceful Rise of Two Great Powers in Asia

The Doklam Standoff as the face to face contact of two of the largest armed forces in the World, India and China came to be known was officially over on 28 August. The two and a half months period has been of intense speculation varying from whether India and China will go to war to the legality of the approach by the two nations which also involved a third party- Bhutan. For India this may be long period of assertiveness trapped in multiple zero sum games. This is not to say that India should have acquiesced to China’s violation of territorial sanctity of a neighbour with whom the country has a friendship treaty only to sound the warning bell that we should now be prepared for a contested rise.-------------Log In or Subscribe----------
