Third List of 50,000 Rohingya Handed Over to Myanmar

Bangladesh has handed over a list of around 50,000 Rohingyas to Myanmar authorities for verification and subsequently expediting repatriation efforts as per Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen. On September 23 in New York, Bangladesh, China and Myanmar agreed to create a “tripartite joint working mechanism” to evaluate the situation on the ground for the repatriation of Rohingyas.

With the new list, Bangladesh has so far handed over names of over 100,000 Rohingya to the Myanmar authorities following the signing of a deal two years back immediately after the massive exodus began in August 2017.

The latest list was handed over on July 29 in Dhaka during a meeting with Myanmar. Not a single Rohingya has gone back to their homeland despite assurances from the Myanmar side. While Bangladesh has been giving the lists to the Myanmar authorities this is the first time that such a large number has been provided thus keeping the onus on the other side for acceptance. However preparations of the Rohingya for repatriation is another challenge as they are demanding citizenship in Myanmar ..........................
