OSINF Report: Bangladesh Draft National Defence Policy 2018 (NDP 2018)

Multiple media sources in Bangladesh including Dhaka Tribune reported that the Cabinet on 19 March (2018) approved in principle the draft of the National Defence Policy 2018 (NDP 2018). A series of committees have been working on the draft that was produced by the Armed Forces Division of the Ministry of Defence after obtaining inputs of the three services.Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the cabinet meeting that passed the NDP 2018 which is said to be based on the first Defence Policy formulated by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1974. Based on the same Hasina led government had also prepared the Forces Goal 2030, a plan for modernization and force accretion in line with the envisaged threat and challenges prepared in 2009.Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam speaking to the media stated that the guidelines included in the new policy outlined capability building, civil military relations and interactions with the people.…………….Please Log in or Subscribe to view full details…..
