India in a Spot in Bangladesh Awami League won the 5 January 2014 polls to the Jatiya Sansad even before the first vote was cast. Party leaders won 127 seats uncontested in the 300 member assembly. The party has already won 102 seats in the polls with saw low voter participation due to a number of reasons including coercion by the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Jamaat Islami cadres. Minorities were particularly targeted as per reports in prominent Dhaka dailies as the Daily Star. There was also lack of interest given that the outcome was largely pre-determined.
