India Bangladesh Concerns River Waters, NRC and Border Deaths

ernal Affairs Minister’s visit to Bangladesh was mostly to set the agenda for the Modi Hasina summit in October in Delhi.  The focus at the Summit will be on connectivity – direct land and water linkages as well as on expansion of energy cooperation and trade between India and Bangladesh. Jaishanker said in a chat with the media, “We believe that this is today the Golden Age - the ‘sonali adhyay’ in India Bangladesh ties and that is thanks to the vision and statesmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina”. The two South Asian neighbours have resolved their land and maritime disputes through international arbitration and mutual consultations thus the main challenges are related to sharing of river waters, especially the Teesta crucial for Bangladesh, especially during the dry season (December to March). ...................
