Awami League to face a united opposition in elections in Bangladesh

As Bangladesh goes in for parliamentary (Jatiya Sansad) election in last week of December, the ruling Awami League which has been in power for 10 years now is likely to face a coalition of parties led by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and a unified group of smaller parties which have been formed by dissidents of the BNP and the Awami League. How far this will change the political equations in the country remains to be seen, however a stiff poll challenge awaits Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who also heads the Awami League.
