Without Infrastructure Torkham Gate on Pak Afghan Border Ineffective

After the Pakistan Prime Minister inaugurated the Torkham crossing on the Pakistan Afghanistan border with much fanfare and stating that the same was to be open 24/7, thus providing a sense that the government was seeking to keep the trade routes open there have been some delays and difficulties that have been faced by the participants and traders on the border.

Dawn news reported that “Hundreds of vehicles loaded with goods remained stranded on Peshawar-Torkham Highway and at private parking places in Landi Kotal owing to an unspecified row between the border authorities of Pakistan and Afghanistan over the release of vehicles from both sides of Torkham”.

Khyber Chamber of Commerce and Industry explaining the reasons for the same demanded effective action by various government departments to overcome the hurdles. 

Meanwhile China has offered to support the infrastructure at Torkham..................
