United States President Donald Trump Eager to End Afghan Deployment

Number of indicators state that the US and Afghan Taliban may recommence talks early as both sides seem to be keen for the same.

While the US President has been making statements on ending the war in Afghanistan soon, Taliban sees this as a hope to recommence the peace talks that were broken on 8 September when they were on the verge of a final deal.

US President Donald Trump on Saturday tweeted: “The Endless Wars Must End!” reiterating what he had sad three days earlier at a rally of supporters, that the US troops "were supposed to be in Afghanistan for a short period of time," but they have remained in Afghanistan for close to 19 years. "It's time to bring them home,” he said.

The tweet comes as the United States has been at war in Afghanistan for nearly two decades. For both sides picking up the broken pieces with a view to start up the process of engagement assumes importance given the necessity to end the stalemate in fighting with neither side having the edge to tip the scales with tremendous loss of lives that has impacted thousands of Afghans while the war remains unpopular at home in the US as well as other NATO countries. .......................
