Tracking Regional Stability South Asia: 4/5 Electoral Turbulence Ahead

Five South Asian countries will be going for key elections in the second half of 2018. Of these but for the Bhutan National Assembly polls, the other four Pakistan, Maldives, Afghanistan and Bangladesh in the sequence in which these will be held are likely to see turbulence – political, law and order as well as violence – inter party and terrorist.  Starting with Pakistan first where elections to the national and provincial assemblies are to be held on 25 July there are a number of indications that these will see intense political mudslinging and stray incidents of political violence. Unlike in 2013 at present there are no indications of any of the main parties having a substantial advantage over the other.......................
