Obama Urges Afghan Rivals to Reach Power-sharing Deal President Barack Obama has urged the rival candidates in Afghanistan's disputed election to come to an agreement on a national unity government, to end the crisis over the vote. Former foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah won the first round of voting in April but did not get enough votes to avoid a June runoff. Former finance minister Ashraf Ghani won the second round, but both sides have alleged election fraud. Obama emphasized that coming to a deal is important in shoring up international support for Afghanistan and preserving the nation's stability.
