Herat Indian Consulate Attack: Joining the Dots A superbly coordinated operation by the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) foiled an attack on the Indian consulate in Herat in Western Afghanistan before it could cause major losses. This is not the first attack on an Indian diplomatic establishment in the country, there have been strikes on the Embassy in Kabul in 2008 and 2009, Guest Houses in Kabul in 2010 which housed some of the Indian staff, an attack in Jalalabad in August 2013 and a recent attempt in Kandahar where a gunman was killed near the Indian consulate.
