Doha Resolution: An Opening for India to Participate in the Afghan Peace Process

India has been insisting on an Afghan owned and Afghan led peace process, the intra Afghan peace conference on 7 & 8 July was the first event which led to the issue of a joint statement by the two sides. While Afghan leaders including members of the High Peace Council (HPC) participated in their personal capacities, the issue of a Resolution though non – binding indicates that the Taliban has shunned resistance in speaking with representatives of the Afghan government. This provides an opening for India which has been insisting that the peace process must be Afghan led and Afghan owned and not controlled by regional and international actors to take active part by supporting the government in Kabul in engaging with the Taliban.................
