China-Pakistan Consultations Post US Suspension of Talks with Taliban

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to Beijing in the first week of October saw a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping amongst other issues covering the Afghan peace process. Both countries in a joint statement reaffirmed commitment to Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process and agreed that there is no military solution to Afghanistan’s civil war.

China appreciated Pakistan's efforts to promoting peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan a signal that Beijing approved the meeting of Pakistani leaders with the Taliban Deputy Leader Mullah Barader recently.

China, Afghanistan and Pakistan have also been holding trilateral meets from time to time to work together to make new efforts to push forward the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation process in Afghanistan and also improve the relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan. In this triangle China and Pakistan have common interests in Afghanistan stability but both may have a different approach to the situation. .......................
