AQIS Presence in Af Pak Raises Concerns

Afghanistan National Directorate of Security issued a statement confirming the death of Asim Omar, a “Pakistani national and member of Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS),” killed in an operation by Afghan forces in the Musa Qala district of Helmand province as per Tolonews.

Omar an Indian citizen was born Shaan-ul-Haq at Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, and went to Pakistan in 1995 and joined the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM).

Killing of the AQIS leader in Helmand province which is under the virtual control of the Taliban indicates a large presence of the group in Afghanistan.

The agreement between the US and the Taliban being negotiated by Mr Zalmay Khalilzad Special Envoy of the US State Department and the Doha council of the anti government outfit has specific reference to control of the Al Qaeda.
