Multiple factors such as narrow margin of win, non acceptance by rival candidates as well as the Taliban, low turnout and threat of parallel government mark instability ahead post declaration of final results of Presidential elections in Afghanistan.

Outcome of Elections

Afghanistan’s Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced final elections results on 18 February. Incumbent President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani secured 50.64% of votes, Abdullah Abdullah and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar have received 39.53% and 3.85% votes respectively.

This was only a slight change from the preliminary results that were announced on December 22, 2019.................
