Abdullah Threatens To Quit Afghan Election Audit Afghan presidential candidate Abdullah Abdullah has threatened to withdraw from an audit of votes cast in the June 14 runoff. Fazel Ahmad Manawi, a senior member of Abdullah's campaign team, said on August 26 that the process was a "joke." He asserted that election officials have "no intention of throwing out" ballots deemed fraudulent in the audit. Manawi said Abdullah's demands over how fraudulent votes should be discarded had been ignored. He warned if Abdullah's demands are not met by the morning of August 27, he will pull out of the audit and "consider it finished."
