Myanmar Army Kills Six Detained Rakhine Villagers And Offers ‘Impossible’ Explanation

Myanmar's military said Thursday that its soldiers killed six detained civilians and wounded eight others inside a school early Thursday in a village in western Myanmar’s violence-wracked Rakhine state, as villagers tried to grab their guns in a coordinated attack. Government forces have been holding 275 civilians in Rathedaung township’s Kyauk Tan village since Tuesday to interrogate them about possible links to a nearby alleged Arakan Army (AA) training camp, though the exact circumstances of the shootings remain murky. Bridger General Zaw Min Tun, a military spokesman, said villagers attacked police and security forces who were conducting the investigations to see if they had ties to the AA, an ethnic Rakhine armed group that is battling Myanmar forces for greater autonomy in Rakhine state...........................
