New Comer DNT Wins Bhutan Polls, Lotay Tshering Likely Prime Minister

Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) and a new entrant, Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) contested the second and final round of the Bhutan National Assembly Elections held on 18 October. The two parties had won the primary round in which only two of the four parties contesting were eligible to field candidates for the second round. The DNT won maximum percentage of votes but led only in 16 Constituencies against the DPTs 22, the incumbent People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gained a lead in 9 but was out of the race for the second round having come in third........The outcome indicates that voters who have polled for the PDP in the first round may have now opted for the DNT, thus giving the party a sizeable lead of 6 seats in the national assembly where 24 is the cut off for majority............
