Rajnath Singh inaugurates the First BIMSTEC Disaster Management Exercise

Rajnath Singh inaugurated first Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation Disaster Management Exercise BIMSTEC DMEx-2017 conducted by National Disaster Response Force as lead agency in Delhi and National Capital Region,at 17th BIMSTEC Senior Officials Meeting held in Kathmandu, Nepal,decided   on India organising  first annual Disaster Management Exercise representing their governments commitment to regional co-operation in area of disaster risk management,expressed concern over disasters in recent monsoon season, floods and landslides affected millions of people across all BIMSTEC countries, another reminder of importance of improving our disaster preparedness added from 1996 to 2015,  BIMSTEC countries lost 317,000 lives to disasters, more than 16 million people in BIMSTEC countries lost homes and economic losses also high and escalating,extreme weather events like floods, droughts, heat waves and cyclones, future  not going to be any better and frequency and intensity of such events to rise in view of climate change, However, if our communities, our towns and villages, and our economic activities resilient, losses can be reduced …………….Please Log in or Subscribe to view full details…..
