India Shifts to Proactive Containment of COVID 19

The Janata or public curfew on 22 March Sunday has been successful with the nation answering the call made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for observing a lockdown but for emergency movement across the country.

This even as the threat of community spread is looming large as unconfirmed reports indicate incidence of non-contact symptoms of the virus in what appears to be presently reported in single numbers. Fears of the unknown or unreported cases looms large.

Having analysed the paucity of testing kits as well as limitations of quarantine and treatment centres in case of a community breakout, a proactive containment policy has been adopted.

Some of the measures that were announced during the review by Cabinet Secretary and PS to Prime Minister on 22 March included instructions for lockdown in those districts where COVID 19 cases have surfaced................
