Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena has directed authorities to grant a six month service extension to Navy Commander Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne, President's Media Division said.The President has issued the directive this morning.President Sirisena appointed Rear Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne as the Navy's 20th Commander and promoted him to the 3-star rank of Vice Admiral with effect from 11th July 2015.

Vice Admiral Wijegunaratne, a past student of Royal College, Joined the Sri Lanka Navy in 1980. Prior to being appointed as the Navy Commander, He held the post of Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy.
