Indian Army Chief What’s App Grievance Reporting Number +91 9643300008.
As per a Press Trust of India Report of 27 January, the Indian Army has set up a WhatsApp number for soldiers to convey their problems which have not been resolved at the lower level directly to Army Chief General Bipin Rawat. The number is: +91 9643300008. This is in addition to the existing grievance redressal system in the Army "But in case a soldier has exhausted all grievance redressal forums and is still not happy, he may contact the Army Chief's office through the new number," an official was quoted by the PTI.
As normally such channels are used by delinquents and shirkers move could raise a number of issues such as violation of chain of command. The Army follows a hierarchical command chain, any disruption of the same will not go down well in maintaining discipline even though the number is to be used in case all else communication fails.
The command chain is also a buffer between the top brass and the rank and file, which may be eroded exposing the Army Chief being directly exposed to issues which are best dealt at the lower levels.
The move may be seen as a response to the large number of videos aired of military and para military personnel on social media in January this year.
