Conclusion: India at the Receiving End

The Indian role in political squabbling in Nepal and the government formation has come up for much consternation in the country and the media is the latest to blame New Delhi for a variety of problems in the country. India has made its interests in Nepal known, and is increasingly being viewed as a domineering neighbour meddling in Nepal’s policies and politics. India’s role is increasingly being questioned by various parties in Nepal and the Unified CPN M or the Maoists are very antagonistic towards New Delhi and have built a strong anti Indian lobby which is vocal from time to time. India has increasingly grown wary of the Maoists, the largest party in parliament, and is accused of trying various means to keep it out of power. The biggest loss for India may be its eroding image among the Nepali masses that is soft power which had immense traction in Nepal so far but may reduce unless New Delhi takes some active corrective measures.
