Continuing Militant Violence

Meanwhile militant violence continued across the State as on 5 September a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist was killed and one injured in a gun battle in Poonch border district in Bhatti-Dar area of Mendhar tehsil.  On 7 September three terrorists were killed in an encounter in the forests of Bandipora district of north Kashmir followed by another encounter on 10 September in Pulwama and Bandipora districts. While five militants were killed in forest areas of Sajan-Dudkulan in Tral area of Phulwama, two others gunned down at Gurez in Bandipora. In a follow up of the Bandipora encounter five people including a soldier, a civilian and three terrorists were killed subsequently. On 23 September, two militants were killed in Sopore in twenty hour long gun battle between the militants and security forces in Dooru area. On 25 September a huge cache of arms was recovered from a militant hideout in Baramulla district’s Nigli nalla in Chandoosa area. These small battles are thus likely to continue as the terrorist groups will keep the pot of insurgency boiling as a sign of their support to the hardliners.
