Indo Bangladesh Military to Military Relations

General Mohd Abdul Mubeen, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Bangladesh was on a goodwill visit to India from 14-20 Mar 2010. The visit assumes special significance in the light of improving military cooperation between the two countries in consonance with India’s growing relationship with Bangladesh. Indo-Bangladesh relations are multifaceted and founded on historical linkages.

India successfully carried out user tests of indigenously developed, nuclear-capable, short range ballistic missile (SRBM) Agni-1 from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Wheeler Island. "It was a fantastic mission carried out by the Indian Army. The test-fire of the Agni-I missile met all parameters," director of ITR S P Dash said.

In order to address the housing needs of the Central Para Military Forces(CPMF), the Ministry of Home Affairs has launched a major initiative through the commencement of an ambitious mega housing project for construction of about 1,00,000 houses across the country. This will be done through the Public Private Partnership mode in about four years. Besides meeting the housing satisfaction level in the Forces, the provision of additional houses for the Force personnel is seen as a measure to boost the morale and motivation level of CPMF personnel, which is also expected to contribute to their operational efficiency.

Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh met with Union home minister P. Chidambaram in New Delhi in the backdrop of the Centre’s talks with the NSCN (I-M). Chidambaram as per a report in the Telegraph reassured the Manipur chief minister that “the Centre would not do anything that would create more problems in the Northeast”. Manipur’s major rebel group, the Revolutionary Peoples Front (RPF) has also declared that any move to disintegrate Manipur as fallout of the ongoing political dialogue between the NSCN (I-M) and Delhi would lead trouble in the State as also with NSCN (IM)

Indian Navy hosted the largest four-day naval war-game, Milan-2010, involving 12 nations in the Asia Pacific region from 4 February in which means to counter terror threats to coastal and island territories was debated keeping in mind the attacks in Mumbai. “There would be a discussion (during Milan-2010) on maritime terror and the means to counter the attacks like what happened in Mumbai,” Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Foreign Cooperation and Intelligence), Rear Admiral Sudharshan Shrikhande told reporters.

In a first ever display of its precision strike capability by night, a mammoth fire power demonstration (FPD), codenamed ‘Vayu Shakti-2010’, showcased the operational capabilities of IAF by day, dusk and night at the sprawling Chandan Air-to-Ground Range, Pokharan on February 28. The FPD demonstrated the day and night employability of air power by frontline fighter aircraft of the IAF including Su-30 MKI, Mirage-2000, Jaguar, Mig-21 and Mig-29.

Gopinathji alias Durga Hembram, wanted talks at the earliest while Kishenji the military commander was opposing it in a central committee meeting of 30 of the 36 member including those from Bihar, Jharkhand and Orissa in the Kanai-shol hill forest area as per media reports.
